Multiples’ Classroom Placement Legislation in Michigan
Senate Bill 719
Introduced by Senator Valde Garcia on September 4, 2007, to require a public school to honor a request from the parent of multiple birth siblings (twins, triplets, etc.) to either place the children in the same classroom or in different classrooms (assuming there is more than one classroom for a grade). The bill was referred to the Senate Education Committee on September 4, 2007.
The Senate Education Committee has not yet scheduled a hearing regarding this legislation, but one is pending. Any testimony that supporters of this bill can provide to the committee supporting the legislation would be helpful.
Once through the committee, the bill would be introduced into the Senate where it would be voted on. If the bill passes, it would then go on to the House for another vote. When both the Senate and the House have voted to pass the bill, it would go to the Governor to become law.
